The inflow of imported Arecanut into the domestic Market has greatly reduced and the Farmers have appreciated the efforts of Smt.Nirmala Seetharaman, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Commerce & Industries (Independent Charge), Govt of India for her efforts. On behalf of all the Arecanut Farmers The CAMPCO Ltd., The Karnataka State Arecanut Cooperative Societies Federation Ltd., Shivamogga and MAMCOS, Shivamogga submitted a Memorandum to the Hon’ble Minister in this regard. Sri.Haribhai P Choudhary, Minister for State Home Affairs too was present. Every time a crisis arose in the domestic Arecanut Market, CAMPCO along with like minded Cooperative Societies would rush to the Union Government for relief and the Government in turn was very spontaneous. The Minimum Tariff Price has been increased and borders tightened, thereby illegal import of Arecanut into the Country has been curtailed to a large extent, due to which the Arecanut Farmers have been able to get a stable and economic Market for their produce. The Hon’ble Minister has reassured that she would take up the matter with SAARC Countries and would take whatever action necessary to completely curb the import of Arecanut. The Areca fraternity is indebted to the Hon’ble Commerce Minister and hopes that in future too the Union Government will respond favourably to the Farmers needs.
Sri.S.R.Satischandra, President CAMPCO; Sri.M.Suresh Bhandary, Managing Director CAMPCO; Sri.Konkodi Padmanabha, President Karnataka State Arecanut Cooperative Societies Federation and Director CAMPCO; Sri.Yedegere Subrahmanya, Vice President MAMCOS, Shivamogga and Sri.K.Satheeshchandra Bhandary, Director CAMPCO were present with the Hon’ble Minister and had detailed deliberations on the above.
