“Mechanization is an important and urgent need of the farming community. It is our endeavor to disseminate information pertaining to availability of agricultural machineries required by small and marginal Farmers to overcome the present scarcity of labour force and hence the Krishi Yanthra Mela II 2012.
In this context, The CAMPCO Ltd., Arecanut Research and Development Foundation[R] (ARDF), Mangalore, Vivekananda Engineering College, Puttur and other Areca growing area Co-operative Societies are jointly organizing Krishi Yanthra Mela II 2012 from 2-11-2012 to 04-11-2012 at Vivekananda Engineering College Grounds, Nehru Nagar, Puttur- 574 203, Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka, India.
For this Mela Manufactures of Agricultural Machineries, Innovators of new Agricultural Machines, Machineries manufactured and imported from China, Israel etc Countries, Farm irrigation and Plant protection equipments, improved Areca Peeling Machines, Machines meant for Dairy technology, non-conventional energy, Agriculture/Horticulture concerned, multi dimensional demonstrations and exhibitions will be arranged. For this Krishi Yanthra Mela Farmers from 12 Areca growing districts of Karnataka and 5 districts of Kerala, i.e. about 50,000 Farmers are participating in this 3 days event. In this Mela provision will be made for Seminars, Live demonstrations, one to one discussion and sale of these Machineries.
Engineering College students innovated / developed projects which are useful for Farmers will be suitably exhibited and rewarded. Agricultural Machines manufacturing /Marketing Companies / Banks / Innovative Farmers developed Machines also will be exhibited in the Fair. Innovative Farmers / Engineering students can exhibit their products / projects free of charge. Commercial Manufacturers / Dealers /Marketing Agencies need to pay the exhibition stall charges fixed by the Organizing Committee. For the Agricultural Engineering Projects / Machineries developed by the Engineering students the ARDF will also arrange Bank Loans.
During 2009-10 the Trust has conducted Arecanut Machinery Fair -2009 from 30-10-2009 to 01-11-2009 at Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology,Puttur. In this Mela 35 different Arecanut Peeling Machines and Sprayers were exhibited with Value Added Products of Arecanut. Now more than 1000 Arecanut Peeling Machines are available in the farmers’ field and State Agriculture &Horticulture Departments are providing subsidy to these machineries. 30,000 farmers participated in the Fair.
During the year 2012 on the direction of the State Government of Karnataka the Trust has made studies on the cost of production of Arecanut involving experts from the field of Agriculture and recommended minimum Support Price for White and Red category of Arecanut.
On 15-12-2011 the Trust in association with CAMPCO has conducted a Seminar on Mechanization in Arecanut farming and processing involving various Agricultural machinery Manufacturers. About 100 Elite Arecanut farmers from Kerala and Karnataka participated in the Seminar.
On 25-04-2012 the Trust in association with CAMPCO has conducted a Seminar on Plant Protection Chemicals and Fertilizers in Arecanut Farms involving scientists of CPCRI,Kasaragod and Vittal and Arecanut Research Station,Shimoga and private chemical manufactuers and distributors. It was observed that the Potassium Phosponate is the main constituent in the chemicals that are available in the market for control of Koleroga/Mahali disease in place of 1% Bordeau Mixture. About 500 farmers participated in the Seminar from Karnataka and Kerala.
The Trust has conducted a workshop on alternative uses of Arecanut in Ayurvedic Medicines at Swarnavalli Mutt,Sonda,Sirsi,Uttar Kannada on 28th and 29th of April 2012 and experts in the Ayurvedic medicines made presentations on the medicinal uses of Arecanut in Ayurveda.About 100 experts in the field of Ayurvedic medicines participated in the workshop.
From 2-11-2012 to 4-11-2012 the Trust in association with the CAMPCO Ltd., and Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Puttur has conducted a Krishi Yantra Mela-II-2012 at Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology grounds,Puttur. It was inaugurated by Dr.Sri.D.Veerendra Heggade,Dharmadhikari,Shrikshethra,Dharmastala. In this programame Sri.Yogish Bhat,Sri.Nalin Kumar, Member of Parliament, Smt.Mallika Prasad, M.L.A.Puttur were present. About 156 exhibition stalls were arranged along with field demonstrations and Seminars. On the last day of the Mela Sri.D.V.Sadananda Gowda, Ex.Chief Minister,Government of Karnataka and Sri.Karunakaran, Member of Parliament, Kasaragod,Kerala participated. About 1.5 lakhs of farmers and other stake holders of the farming community have participated in the Mela.
