In recent years, Agriculture suffered much due to acute shortage of manpower. This was especially true in Arecanut cultivation where the farmers depend on skilled workers for climbing and dehusking. Mechanizationin all the fields of Agriculture is only the answer for such situations. With this in view, the ARDF., in association with the CAMPCO Ltd. Mangalore; Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha and Farmer First Trust, Puttur, had organized for the first time a Krishi Yantra Mela by name – ‘Areca Machinery Fair-2009’ at Vivekananda Engineering College, Nehru Nagar, Puttur, Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka for three days from 30th October to 1st November 2009. The main objective of this fair was to exhibit and introduce different kinds of areca dehusking machines in one platform for the benefit of farmers.
In this fair about 30 different kinds of Areca Dehusking Machines and three spraying systems were displayed and demonstrated. Face to face discussions with the innovators and manufacturers were also arranged. Agriculture related Seminars were also arranged by renowned Scientists on all three days of the event. About 30,000 farmers from different regions had participated in the fair.
